Electro Mechanical Plant Design Leader to HVDC
You will be part of HVDC in Ludvika. ABB:s HVDC unit (High Voltage Direct Current) develops, manufactures and constructs DC transmission systems on a global market. The HVDC-technology developed by ABB is used to transfer electrical energy over long distances and for power transmission when using undersea cables. HVDC is also used to connect power systems. HVDC Light was also developed by ABB and is now highly requested on the market. The technology is suitable for power systems where overhead lines cannot be used or where power grids need to be strengthened. HVDC Light is also used for offshore connections of platforms and wind power farms. Challenge: At the office for electro mechanical plant design, we are responsible for design development for delivery projects and for tenders. Your tasks will be to act as design lead in develop layouts and installation drawings for high voltage equipment as well as to conduct mechanical calculations. You will also generate building design basis documents, suitable for ground works, buildings and steel constructions. The position also includes, with focus on costs and goals, to manage delivery projects. A typical delivery project includes three designers. Contacts with customers and suppliers will be part of your work. As our projects are carried out in countries like Brazil, Ireland, PDR Congo, China and Germany, you will also have the opportunity to make business trips. Requirements: To be suitable for this position, you should have a Bachelor in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, alternatively a few years' work experience within Mechanical Design. You should also have solid understanding of design rules and different construction materials as well as experience from CAD, preferably UGS/NX and Team Center. It is qualifying if you have worked with electromechanical plant design or have experience from civil design. Further you must master English, written and spoken alike. Additional language skills are positive. Our projects are conducted in teams, so to thrive you need to be open-minded and collaborative. Powertrain Installation is one of four development departments within Powertrain, who mainly focus on development within five areas: Engine Mounts System, Exhaust System, Air Induction System, Cooling System, and Fuel System. Engine Mounts System and Air Induction System are today merged into one section that consists of around 50 people and is divided into 3 groups, two technical groups and a third group (Projects) consisting of all the Group Design Leaders and System Project Leaders (SPL) for both areas. Our two product areas have a major impact on the car's total experience as an end product. This position is within the Projects group. As Group Design Leader - Air Induction System you will be working in the industrialisation phase of the project up until production start, implementing the components of the system. As Group Design Leader you work together with the team to develop technical solutions and documentations to describe the systems and components. You will be the point of contact towards our suppliers and review the solutions they develop. Your responsibility will be to coordinate the work cross functionally between the different attribute groups and the suppliers to find a balanced end result of the different components we are responsible for. The work will be carried out together with a team consisting of design engineers, test engineers and CAE engineers. The group Distribution has the main purpose to develop fuel and SCR distribution systems and the group is organised within the unit Powertrain engineering and the department powertrain installation. For fuel distribution, we have the complete system responsibility in the vehicle and we develop components such as fuel pumps, filters, control module for all different fuels in the market. For SCR system, we also have the system responsibility for distributing UREA to the engine including components pump, quality sensors and level sensors. We are also responsible for the function level indication. The team members are a very technical interested and we have a good spirit and atmosphere. As a Group Design Leader you will during one year, be responsible for securing that project deliveries within the group meet time plans, quality assured and optimised. You are continuing the work at the pre study gate and will lead the assignment up until production start. You will have a cross functional role and among others work together with our suppliers, design engineers, test engineers and product responsible. You are responsible for time, technique and cost in one or several assignments and are leading the suppliers to deliver the optimal system and component solutions. The AIS group consists of 15 men and women. We are of different ages, background and experience. The main purpose of the system is to clean and transport air to the combustion chamber within the ICE - Internal Combustion Engine. Other important attributes that have to be considered when designing the system is to reduce noise, inhibit snow and water intrusion and keep low pressure in the given design area. Our components are designed as Build to Print and we are developing dirty side ducts, air cleaners, clean side ducts and charge air ducts. We are now looking for a Group Design Leader. As Group Design Leader you will be working in projects in the industrialisation phase. You will coordinate and lead a team of design engineers to reach the technical objectives and secure the deliveries within the given time and cost frames. You will have close contact with other areas within R&D, purchase, manufacturing and suppliers. Our components are designed as Build to Print. This position reports to the System Projects Leaders (SPL) and Group Manager. Our group is part of the section Fuel System that is responsible for the development of complete systems for Fuel and SCR, Distribution and Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) As a Group Design Leader you will be responsible for securing that project deliveries within the group meet time plans, are quality assured and optimised. You are continuing the work at the pre study gate and will lead the assignment up until production start. You will have a cross functional role and among others work together with our suppliers, design engineers, test engineers and product responsible. You are responsible for time, technique and cost in one or several assignments and are leading the suppliers to deliver the optimal system and component solutions. The highly efficient turbo charged engines in the fuel efficient cars of the future require well optimised air systems, which ensures that the engines get clean air in a lossless manner. The power you get from an engine is determined by the amount of air that you can get to flow through it. High airflow rates has to be achieved with as low pressure drop as possible, while managing the high packaging restrictions in the engine bay.Other important attributes that have to be considered when designing the system is to reduce noise and to inhibit snow and water intrusion. The group Air Induction System consists of 15 men and women. We are of different ages, background and experience. The main purpose of the AIS is to clean and transport air from outside the car to the combustion chamber within the ICE - Internal Combustion Engine. We are responsible for the development of air filters and charge air systems to Volvo's petrol and diesel engines. The highly efficient turbo charged engines in the fuel efficient cars of the future require well optimised air systems, which ensures that the engines get clean air in a lossless manner. The power you get from an engine is determined by the amount of air that you can get to flow through it. High airflow rates has to be achieved with as low pressure drop as possible, while managing the high packaging restrictions in the engine bay.Other important attributes that have to be considered when designing the system is to reduce noise and to inhibit snow and water intrusion. Our components are designed as Build to Print and we are developing dirty side ducts, air cleaners, clean side ducts and charge air ducts. We are now looking for a Group Design Leader (GDL) to join our team. As a Group Design Leader at Air Induction System you will be working in projects in the industrialisation phase. You will coordinate and lead a team of design engineers to reach the technical objectives and secure the deliveries within the given time and cost frames. You will have close contact with other technical areas within R&D and also purchasing, manufacturing and suppliers.The work demands a personality that runs tasks effectively and find ways to implement the best possible solution with regards to quality, cost and time. Interior Engineering consists of four sections with 45 to 100 employees, each focused on delivering world class interiors for our future cars. In the areas of seating and restraints, we use Design & Development as suppliers and they develop the systems with our guidance. We are responsible for all phases of the development, i.e. annual work, advanced engineering, concept development, industrialization, quality and cost reduction. Attributes connected to Interior Engineering are seating comfort and interior illumination. We work in a cross-functional work process with Purchasing, Design, Manufacturing, Product Planning and, of course, the other development units within R&D. The interior of the car is where you create a state of wellbeing, excellent customer satisfaction and a motivation to buy a Volvo again! The section Restraints, are divided in four groups; Program Execution, Seatbelt & Child Safety, Side- Rear- & Rollover Restraints and Steering Wheels & Frontal Airbag. All together we are today about 50 persons. The group Seatbelts and Child Safety today includes 13 persons. We are responsible for the development of seat belt systems and child safety products. As Group Design Leader (GDL) within the group Seatbelt & Child Safety you are responsible for the in-time delivery of the Seat Belt systems solutions across the car, which are delivered by the supplier as a result of well performed specifications developed in collaboration with different attribute areas, purchase, manufacturing engineers, system responsible, responsible for surrounding system, etc. You will establish and develop relationships with representatives from many areas of the vehicle meaning you will build and maintain a wide personal network within Volvo Cars. We are responsible for the entire process of engineering design of exterior systems such as Hood, front fenders, glass, bumpers & grilles, mouldings, lighting, and large injection moulded exterior plastic parts. We have the development responsibility for Volvo car's all product families and the development work is done in close cooperation with our suppliers. Development activities are carried out mainly in Gothenburg. You will work in a creative environment where tomorrow's cars are shaped. The department, Mechanical and Electrical Design, is responsible for designing Hardware components for the Traction Battery System. You will be part of an engineering team that develop engineering solutions fulfilling attribute requirements and manufacturing process demands within decided cost and time frames. The work includes contacts with other engineering departments, CAE teams and manufacturing engineering within our company as well as with external suppliers. Group Design Leader (GDL)
The Base Engine & ED Structure Components section is one of eight sections within the Propulsion Power System (PPS) department. The section consist of four groups that all are responsible for different areas of the complete base engine. The group, Base Engine Lower, is responsible for the block, crank system, gaskets and sealings in the combustion engines. The group is also responsible for the in-house designed electrical motor housings as well as rotor shafts. Main technology´s for our components are HPDC aluminium and forged steel. Most of them are also in-house machined why we work in close contact with the engine plant. We are 13 engineers having responsibilities for everything from designing to industrialization of these components.   What you will do The Group Design Leader (GDL) is the project leader for each group and are the main interface between the projects and the group. Responsibilities are to plan, monitoring and secure the groups deliveries to each project as well as reporting status and deviations from the agreed time, technology and cost frames to project and line management. You will be responsible for summary and report the complete group's deliveries and action plans prior to project gates. The GDL works pro-active to secure a good status on all deliveries. The position gives good insight in different areas of VCC and a wide circle of contacts. In Volvo Cars R&D, we are looking for a Group Design leader (hereafter referred to as GDL) who will work with door structure. It is a leading role which is a combination of scrum master (in the context of agile) and technical task leader.   Who we are Our Section, Closures, which is part of Painted Body and Closure, consists of four groups (Door mechanics, Door structure, Rear-opening system and Sealing system). Since we both have in-house design and supplier designed components, the network is very broad. The teams are cross functional with other R&D departments, purchasing, manufacturing engineering, suppliers etc. This means that you will develop your network and broaden your knowledge about in-house design and in cooperation with suppliers learning about mechanical and mechatronic systems. What we offer As Group Design Leader (GDL) for side door structure you will act as well as a scrum master, as a cross functional task leader and be responsible for project team for side door structure in specific. We are looking for you who like to work in a team with close collaboration and team spirit. As a leader and a team player we need a person with a positive attitude who likes to be proactive and has the courage to take the initiatives. Since you will be coaching colleagues such as CAD engineers, you have experiences and passions for leadership. You feel confident in talking one to one but also in larger fora’s. To be successful in this position you need a technical background, experiences from in-house engineering as well as understanding of the product development process. You also like to drive and use cars and are eager to understand how our customers use and experience them. What you will do You will work with technical solutions with documenting the time, technology and quality cost, initiating and implementing technical logical plan for components, systems, materials. You will work as a coach being scrum master in the team to facilitate different meetings such as daily standup, iteration planning, incremental planning, retrospective. You will also participate in Lessons Learned deeply. You will strive for continuous improvement throughout the work flow. You and your skills We would like you carry a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree (or above) of mechanical engineering or equivalent as working experiences. You should have worked more than 5 years in car industry. We appreciate that you have gotten team leadership experience. We also would like that you have an open-minded mind-set, like to take challenges and welcome changes. We prefer that you have a background of working with car project involving sheet metal parts. We are making impact, and are now in need of a new Group Design Leader (GDL) to the group Powertrain Mounts System. The group consists of 18 men and women with different background and ages. Wat you’ll do? As a GDL at Powertrain Mount System, you have the responsibility to find solutions for technical documentation in the industrialization and maintenance phases in accordance with time, technology, quality cost (TTC) contracts. You will be working in one of our teams with design engineers/CAE and other GDL, to a specific project. You will lead the design task within a cross functional team, with contacts both within and outside Volvo (Supplier, Toolmaker, Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design, Supplier Quality Management). You are responsible for communicating goals, anchor decisions, report status and forecasts for the task. You will and create a commitment among the different stakeholders. It will be your responsibility to initiate and implement technical logical plan for components/systems/materials, you will handle requirements and secure content of Engineering Statement of Work. Do you fit the profile? You have a structured work schedule and always manage your task in an efficient way, you are used to prioritize and understand that time is valuable. You are solid in your technical knowledge, so that you can be analytical, always keeping an open mind, you possesses the ability to “think outside the box”.
